Cherington Stourton Flood / Sewage Meeting

Following an invite from the organisers, on the 14th of March SAFAG attended a three hour meeting concerning issues of flooding and sewage in Stourton and Cherington. The meeting was co-ordinated and chaired by MP for the Stratford constituency Manuella Perteghella, with approximately 50 to 60  residents in attendance. In addition, a number of other stakeholders were present including:

  • Warwickshire County Councillor Jo Barker
  • Stratford District Councillors Olivia Hatch and Sarah Whalley-Hoggins
  • Representatives from local Parish Councils
  • Andrew Richardson from the Environment Agency
  • Two representatives from Severn Trent Water
  • Mark Banning from the Warwickshire Country Council Flood Team
  • Jeff Morrison from Warwickshire Country Council Highways

SAFAG set up three large tables with our educational materials, and Chief Operating Officer Mike McCarthy was asked to open the meeting and address the attendees explaining SAFAG’s work and successes. He was also invited to add further comment and information about flooding and SAFAG work several times during the meeting.

It was clear that MP Perteghella is determined to see material action from the relevant agencies on flooding and sewage and has called another meeting in three months to review progress. She also took some time to speak with our team and was very complementary about our intervention work.
