2021 EA Flood Award - WINNER

SAFAG Work Update

A lot of SAFAG’s work also involves connecting organisations like the SRT and EA with landowners interested in implementing natural flood management interventions and who wish to taking advantage of some of the funding available for NFM projects.

For example, below we can see the photos of latest phase of the reinstatement of a silted pond at Sutton under Brailes, recently completed and totally organised and paid for by Severn Rivers Trust / Environment Agency, where SAFAG facilitated by providing recommendations to the landowner on the initial walks to scope the site. One the left the pond before excavation, on the right after work was completed. A Catchment Restoration Officer for the Severn Rivers Trust who liased on the project described the contractor’s work as ‘a great job’. There will be further work to follow if funding permits.

The SRT / EA are also planning work at Compton Scorpion, (ponds, wetlands and dams). A scoping visit with the land owner estate manager is planned for May. In addition, they have also recently built a large pond near to Shoulderway lane and last year they completed a large scheme near Camden (see photo below)

At the same time, SAFAG are now back out in the fields fairly regularly as we hit Spring and Summer with a chance to monitor, assess, reinforce, fix, or remove our existing 800+ interventions, most recently on April 16th upstream of Long Compton. If you want to volunteer please do contact us through this site.
